Dark espresso, steamed oat milk, a whisper of vanilla bean - best ordered when you have nowhere else to be.

Someone orders the same thing every day. We never ask why. There's a chair by the window that holds the warmth longer than the others.

"The rain knows how to keep a secret."
People come in to wait. Then they stay. The sound of rain on glass is a very particular kind of company.

The last table stays till we close. They never say goodbye - just slip out like a sentence that didn't need an ending.
